Local HistoryThis village was named for W. S. Winegar, a landowner here from at least 1888. The Entry Book, dated April 9, 1888, records a contract: "Thaddeus A. Smith vs. Stillwell, Lefaiver and Winegar". A station on the Michigan Central Railroad. Storekeeper Marguerite W. Hull became its first postmaster on November 18, 1919.
