Local HistoryFounded about 1878 and named for Charles Whitney, a land surveyor for the Pittsburg & Lake Superior Iron Company. This village was given a station on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and on October 30, 1883, a post office, with John C. Kirkpatrick as its first postmaster.
