Local HistoryFounded by Albert P. Foland in 1862, who moved his general store a quarter of a mile north to be near the Pere Marquette Railroad when it came through here in 1872. First platted by S. S. Hastings for Charles J. and Mary M. Allen in 1876. Named by and for James B. Wheeler, a pioneer settler of 1859 and the first supervisor of the township in 1862.
