Ancestors - Exploring our Heritage Community InformationLocal HistoryRussell Coman was the first white settler in the area, coming from New York State in 1835. First named Coman by settlers in 1837 for their town, but through an error the name given was Canaan. It was renamed Wright in 1844, and from the location of the township, the village was called South Wright. In 1877, the north part of the village was platted and named for Henry Waldron, of Hillsdale, who represented the district in congress. Incorporated as a village in 1905.
