Exploring our Heritage through our Ancestors Local HistoryIt was first settled in 1833 by Henry Leach, of Detroit, followed soon by a squatter named Lathrop, and Jacob Wilkinson, the first permanent settler. The Detroit & Milwaukee Railroad came through in 1856 and made it a station. The village was first platted in 1856, but not recorded until 1866. Milo Harrington opened the first store in 1857.
