Local HistoryStephen Bogue and Charles P. Ball built a grist mill here in Penn Township in 1848-49, and in 1851 laid out the village. Asa Kingsbury became its first merchant. The Michigan Central Railroad came through in 1871 and gave it a station. Incorporated as a village in 1875. Believed to have been named after Vandalia, N.Y.
