Golf CoursesHospitals Local HistoryJohnson Niles, from Otsego County, N.Y., purchased the first land here in 1821 and became the first settler in 1822. In 1838, he platted the village and recorded it as Hastings, honoring Eurotas P. Hastings, then president of the Michigan Bank. It was also called Troy Corners, named after its township which had been named after Troy, N.Y., many of the early settlers having come from that area. Incorporated as the city of Troy in 1955.
