Exploring our Heritage through our Ancestors Local HistoryDarius Pierce located land here in 1832. He sold it to Timothy Kimball who built a log house and became the first actual settler in 1833. First named Wirt, changed to Tekonsha on June 17, 1836. When the Michigan Central Railroad came through it was given a station in 1871. Incorporated as a village in 1877. It was named for a local Pottawattomi Chief, Tekon-qua-sha. Informational
