Local History

The first settler in the area was Peter Coan in 1830.  Taylor Township was erected in 1847, with Jared Sexton as its first supervisor, and was named for General Zachary Taylor, then fresh from his victories in the Mexican War.  Given a post office as Taylor Center on January 12, 1863.  Incorporated as a city in May, 1968.
