BusinessesLocal HistoryLaid out in 1832 on the farm of E. F. Hazen, it was first called Hazenville. It was given a post office as Durham on March 8, 1833, with Lot Whitcomb as its first postmaster. On June 10, 1879, it was renamed Sherwood in honor of its first settler, Alexander E. Tomlinson who had come from Sherwood Forest, England.
