BusinessesCommunity InformationLocal HistoryWilliam Smith became the first postmaster of this settlement on May 3, 1824. The office was transferred to and renamed Utica on June 17, 1836, but on the same day, the Shelby post office was re-established, with Tobias Rice as the postmaster.
