BusinessesLocal HistoryThis village in Exeter Township was settled in 1872. It was named for businessman and lumberman Silas A. Scofield, of the firm of Scofield & Rice, and he became the station agent for the Chicago & Canada Southern Railroad here. Robert Van Vleek became the first postmaster on January 20, 1874.
