BusinessesCommunity Information Local HistoryIn 1852, Hiram Davis built the first log cabin here and Charles S. Kimberly the first store. The village was platted by J. B. Parks for Mr.. Kimberly, its proprietor. Alonzo Carpenter became its first postmaster on January 21, 1854. Incorporated as a village in 1869. Charles Kimberly was a fastidious gentleman and the lumberjacks dubbed him St. Charles, so when it came to naming the village, that name was adopted.
