BusinessesChurchesLocal HistorySilas Scott cleared the first land here in 1821 but Ashael Bailey from Connecticut became the first permanent settler in January of 1822. In the fall of 1822, Job Hoxie and his family arrived, and it became known as the Hoxie settlement, and was so designated on Farmer's map of 1828. It was given a post office as Indian Village on April 18, 1827, but changed to Romeo at the suggestion of Mrs. Laura Taylor on November 11, 1830. Incorporated as a village in 1838.
