BusinessesLocal HistoryThis village was first settled by Smith Lapham, from Washtenaw County, in 1843, and he became the first postmaster of Laphamsville on April 5, 1848. The village was platted as Laphamville in 1856, replatted and renamed Rockford in 1865, and its post office was renamed Rockford on August 24, 1866.
