BusinessesLocal HistoryWilliam H. Pells, a native of Poughkeepsie, N. Y., came to Michigan from Illinois where he had founded the village of Paxton in 1872, he bought 1300 acres in Emmet County in 1876, began re-selling it to settlers, built a store and a hotel, and in 1882, platted the village and named it for him. Henry Park became its first postmaster on September 20, 1882, and in that year it was given a station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana (now Pennsylvania) Railroad. Incorporated as a village in 1907.
