Local History

Eli Gould first settled here in 1833.  James M. Gould platted the village, recording his plat on April 5, 1848 and naming it Groveland.  When given a post office on January 28, 1862, it was renamed after Parma, New York, where some of its pioneers had come from.

Incorporated as a village in 1864.  In its early days, the settlement was nicknamed Cracker Hill and so appears on some old maps.
