BusinessesLocal HistoryThe village was named from its township which had been named "from its park-like appearance, when it was visited by the settlers". Platted in 1851 by James Hutchinson on land bought by Luther Carlton from New Hampshire. Schellhouse & Carlton built a woolen mill here in 1851 and Reed & Huffman followed with a grist mill in 1853.
