BusinessesExploring our Heritage through our Ancestors
Local HistoryThe Orchard Lake Hotel opened in 1872 and was given a post office on March 18, 1873. The Indians had called the lake beside it Menahsagorning, or Apple Place, because of the many apple trees and orchards nearby. Thus the lake came to be called Orchard Lake as was the village by it, which was founded by local residents. Incorporated as a village in 1927.
