Local History
When first settled
about 1820, the village was called Catville from the initials of its
proprietors, C. A. Trowbridge, and was given a post office of that name on April
3, 8160, with Moses R. Nowland as its first postmaster. On March 20, 1868,
it was renamed New Boston after the Massachusetts city, which had been named
after Boston, England, a contraction of the original name of St. Botolph's town.
