Local HistoryJustin Walker became the first settler in Wright Township in 1839. Its village of Berlin was given a post office on September 23, 1852, with George W. Woodward as its first postmaster. The village was platted and recorded in 1857. It was so named because of the many German settlers in the area. Conflicting emotions arising during World War I caused the name was changed on June 5, 1919, commemorating the Battle of the Marne, where so many American soldiers participated, the towns annual fair continued to be called the Berlin fair.
