Local HistoryThe first actual settler was John Beebe. He sold out to Reuben Simons in 1838. The settlement which formed was first called Greenbush. In 1842, Samuel W. and William Monroe bought and platted a part of it as Monrovia. The two parts were given a post office as Lexington in January, 1846. It was in St. Clair County until Sanilac was organized in 1848. Incorporated as a village in 1855. Named by Reuben Diamond whose wife was a cousin of Ethan Allen who had fought at Lexington.
