Local HistoryThe village was first platted by Judson W. Kingsley on a part of his homestead, and its depot on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad was first named Kingsley Station in 1874. Dr. Myron S. Brownson, a native of Steuben County, N.Y., laid out lots on property adjoining on the west, which he recorded in 1876 as the village of Paradise, named after its township. In 1890, both plats were incorporated as the village of Kingsley. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
