9 trails winding through forest that are marked, groomed for all levels of cross country skiers. Amenities include, night skiing, snowshoeing, lodging, instruction, trail maps.

 

Wolverine Nordic Ski Trails

Located in the heart of big snow country means having an average snowfall of 200" and a season that starts earlier and lasts longer than other regions in the Midwest. 17 km of trails are nestled in the rolling hills of Lake Superior's south shore.

Local History

First settled in 1885 as the commercial center of the Gogebic iron mining district and platted that year by the Milwaukee, Lake Shore & Western (now the Chicago & Northwestern) Railway.  Named for a man prominent in early mining deals, James R. Wood, known as "Iron" Wood.  It was in Ontonagon County until Gogebic was organized in 1887.  Incorporated as a village in 1887 and as a city in 1889.
