Local HistoryFounded by Milton Barney who built a sawmill and a grist mill here in 1832, a store in 1834 and an inn in 1835. The township when organized in 1834, was named after Homer, Cortland County, N.Y., at the request of James Hopkins and other early settlers who had come form that area.
