Local HistoryFounded by John Allen and Alanson Daggett in 1837. It was given a post office named Barnettsville on March 31, 1856, changed to Sand Beach in December, 1861. A station on the Pere Marquette Railroad in 1880. Incorporated as a village in 1882. The village was renamed Harbor Beach on April 18, 1889, the change being made to rid outsiders of the impression that the place was nothing but sand. Incorporated as a city in 1910.
