Local History

The Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company acquired the site in 1902, opened the Gwinn Mine in 1905, and had Warren H. Manning plat a model village in 1907, named by William Gwinn Mather, president of the company, for his mother whose maiden name was Elizabeth Lucy Gwinn.
