Local History

The original plat, since enlarged, was incorporated in 1926 as the village of Lochmoor.  The name being derived from the Scottish words for a lake and a level area, it being flat land near Lake St. Clair.  Renamed Grosse Pointe Woods in 1939.  Incorporated as a city in 1950.
