Local HistoryThe village began as a depot on the Michigan Central Railroad and was first named Frankenmuth Station (it is in Frankenmuth Township). On April 23, 1894, it was renamed Gera, after a town in Germany, and given a post office with George F. McNeal as its first postmaster. The office operating until 1902.
