Local HistoryA station named Welch on the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, in Hendricks Township, in 1891. The settlement formed around the sawmill and general store of Hudson & Donaldson in 1897. George A. Donaldson became its first postmaster on November 4, 1898, and was still serving when the name was changed to Garnet on December 31, 1904.
