Local HistoryFounded and platted as a subdivision in Nankin Township by Arnold F. Folker in 1921 and when the village was incorporated in 1927, he became its first president. Incorporated as a city in 1933. Garden City is to believed to have been named because it was platted into lots large enough for their owners, when unemployed, to cultivate vegetable gardens.
