Local HistoryIn 1870, Louis Sands built a mill here which was bought by Richard G. Peters in 1879. He was evidently the founder of the village, for in an 1881 record he is referred to as "the proprietor of the village of Eastlake." A station on the Pere Marquette Railroad. Incorporated as a village in 1912. Named from its location on the east shore of Manistee Lake. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
