Local HistoryFirst settled by Anthony Niles and Stephen B. Groger in 1834, and they named it after the township. The village was moved a half mile east with the donation of land, a depot, and a Methodist church by George W. McCrumb in 1872 and he is considered its founder. Incorporated as a village in 1873.
