Local History

A swamp area when Julius Thorson, of Munising, bought the land here in 1838.  He built a factory to make gift articles, and with the holiday trade in mind, he named the place Christmas.  A fire in June 1940 wiped out the place and ended the endeavor, but the area still retains the name.
