Chippewa Nature Center400
S. Badour Rd. *Hours & Admission
Quietly nestled on more than 1,000 acres of natural lands not far from downtown Midland, the Chippewa Nature Center offers over 14 miles of trails (including a wheelchair-accessible section) where visitors can enjoy hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
The Visitor Center features a new interactive Ecosystem Gallery to highlight the major habitats found at the nature center, an indoor wildlife viewing area, as well as a 2,600 volume library of books relating to nature, archaeology, history and culture. The Nature Center Store offers unique nature-themed gifts, toys, apparel and books.
Also located on the center's property is an 1870s Homestead Farm. The log cabin is the heart of the farm. Here, visitors have many opportunities to see and learn skills used over 100 years ago. The reconstructed cabin features hand-hewn logs of virgin pine and hemlock. The farm also includes a furnished cabin, schoolhouse, animal barn, storage barn and sugar shack. Open seasonally, programs offer visitors an opportunity to try their hand at the many chores that were a part of life on a 19th century farm.
