Community Organizations Local HistoryThis settlement was developed from the very successful Central Mine nearby, which was opened in 1854 and closed in 1898. It was given a post office named Central Mine, on December 8, 1871, with its spelling changed to Centralmine on June 30, 1894. The village comprised mostly Methodist Cornishmen, and though it is now considered a ghost town, many of their descendants still keep up the church here to which they make an annual pilgrimage.
