Local HistoryAlmer Smith became the first postmaster of Woodstock (named after its township, which Charles M. McKenzie had named after his native Woodstock, Vermont), on January 3, 1838. Named Kelly's Corners post office, for pioneer local landowner Orson Kelly, on February 17, 1868. The office was changed to Woodstock on December 6, 1886, to Cement on February 21, 1901 and finally to Cement City on March 5, 1901. The founder of the new village, William Cowhan, renamed it in 1900 with the coming in of a new cement company. Incorporated as a village in 1953.
