Local HistoryFirst settled by Robbins Hicks in 1855. The village was platted in 1859 and he recorded it in 1860. The Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad came through in 1868. Incorporated as a village in 1871 and as a city in 1960. Named because the area was then covered with a dense growth of cedar and abounding in springs. Two being in the creek at the site of the town.
