Local HistoryFounded about 1893 by Karl Petros Janssen. He was known as Carl Peter Johnson, but he was appointed postmaster on December 7, 1894, as Charles Peter Johnson. He sent in the name Carlslund (Carl's land) but it came back Carlshend, and has so remained. Johnsons continued as postmasters until 1831, Charles p. being followed by Henry D. and Gilbert A.
