Local HistoryFounded by its landowners: Easton T. Chester, his son, Orson D. Chester, and Nathan Alward. Given a post office named Cranbrook on August 10, 1837, changed to Camden on September 7, 1840. The village grew up around the sawmills built by Frederick Perring in 1838 and Easton T. Chester in 1839. Platted in 1867. Incorporated as a village in 1899. The name was drawn from a hat by its founders, being the one proposed by Easton T. Chester who had come from Camden, N.Y.
