Local HistoryWilliam Core became its first postmaster on November 26, 1878. Development of the village began with a sawmill owned by C. S. Darrow and built by Boone and Johnson in 1881. The town and township were named for Kingsley B. Bingham, governor of Michigan, 1855-58, U.S. Senator, 1859-61, when he died in office.
