Local HistoryA station on the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic Railroad, on the Lake Gogebic shore, in Matchwood Township. The village was founded and named by Gunlak A. Bergland, of Milwaukee, who built a sawmill here in 1900. Storekeeper Peter A. Johnson became its first postmaster on April 20, 1903.
