Local HistoryFounded by a group of Methodists as the Bay View Association in 1875, for religious purposes. An educational program (lectures and music) was begun in 1886, and the community developed from it. Mail was handled in the Association's hotel, Bay View House, but when it burned down a government post office was established. Given a station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad. Named from its view of Little Traverse Bay. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
