Local History

Early French Explorers named Point Au Gres from the "gritty stone" in the region.  The first settlers were workers on the Saginaw-AuSable State Road which reached here about 1862.

John Bradley, the first permanent settler, built the Bradley House in 1866.  The Post Office opened in 1867 and Mr. Bradley as postmaster; incorporated as a city in 1905.
