Local HistoryTo serve the French living in the area, then called the Swan Creek Settlement, the Reverend Charles Chambille came here in 1853 and dedicated his church in 1854. That was the nucleus of the village. In 1876, C.A. Calzin renamed it from its location on anchor Bay. George Augustus Christie served as the first postmaster from December 4, 1885 to 1940.
