Local History

William Seaton and Bartley Davis built a sawmill and Harrison J. Brown a flouring mill, in 1868, on the Little Muskegon River, in Hinton Township, where the village of Altona was later platted.  William Judd became its first postmaster on February 5, 1872, the office operating until November 15, 1937.
