Local History

The settlement formed around the James B. Patterson sawmill and the F. Hout general store.  Mrs. Lillian Hout became the first postmaster on December 17, 1903.  This Grant Township village was given a station on the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad.  It was named by Mr. Patterson who had made a trip to Hawaii.
