Local HistoryFirst settled by John and Alex Heather, Canadian-born brothers, in 1862. Named after Almira Burrell, wife of A. J. Burrell, who emigrated here from Steuben County, New York, in 1863. Hiram Bowen became its first postmaster on January 18, 1864, the year the town was organized, but the office was closed on September 29, 1893.
