Local History The village began as a station at the junction of the Mackinaw division of the Michigan Central and the Detroit, Bay City & Alpena Railroads in 1883. It was given a post office on March 7, 1884, with John Cole as its first postmaster. The village was platted and recorded in 1884 by John S. Newberry, congressman, 1879-80 and Russell A.
