Local History

This village in Littlefield Township was first settled in 1875.  It was given a post office named Hinman on January 17, 1877, with Hollis Frayer as its first postmaster.  On June 22, 1882, it was renamed Alanson for Alanson Cook, an official of the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad, which first came through here then.  Incorporated as a village in 1903.
